Analyze the standard and picking it apart the chunks in learning. Look at your standard and find where the commas and where the AND is in the standard. Everywhere you find a comma and the word AND, you will be creating a chunk in the learning.
Place the chunks in the Goal and Learning Intention.
If the Standards uses action verb (DOK Level-Analyze, Demonstrate, Explain, Identify, Understand or any other word), you will place that part of the standard in the proficient area of the Progression of Learning.
Create your Essential Questions below the Learning Progression. (Special Note: Some teachers may prefer to build their Learning Progression from the essential questions or Backwards Assessment Model.

Review the progression of learning to ensure that the tasks for each level of learning increase to deeper levels of learning, Surface Level, Deeper Learning and Transfer. According John Hattie’s research, transfer is the highest level of learning and connects the student learning to their lives.
